Summer 2027 recruiting
Point72 internships: when they open and how to apply
There are two very different ways into Point72 as a student. Point72 Academy trains discretionary equity analysts and takes students from any major; Cubist, the firm's systematic arm, hires quantitative researchers and developers.

Internships and programs at Point72
The early-career programs it runs for students and recent graduates, by the names it uses for them.
- Point72 Academy Summer Internship
- An eight-week program during your final summer of university. Classroom training in accounting, modeling, data analysis, and AI runs alongside time with portfolio managers and analysts on Point72's long/short equity teams.
- Point72 Academy Associate Program
- The full-time version: ten months of paid training for recent graduates and early-career professionals who want to become investment analysts. Point72 says more than 250 Academy graduates have gone on to analyst roles at the firm.
- Cubist Quantitative Research Internship
- For students drawn to systematic investing. Interns learn market prediction and systematic investing techniques on research problems across Cubist's liquid asset classes, which include equities, futures, and foreign exchange.
- Cubist Quantitative Development Internship
- For engineers who want to work on the trading platforms and research infrastructure Cubist's researchers depend on.
- Cubist Quant Academy
- A year-long rotational program for students and recent graduates headed toward quant research or development. Participants rotate across teams before settling into a role at Cubist.
When Point72 posts internships
Point72 Academy opens earlier than almost anyone on the buy side. For the 2027 summer class, Point72 said the application would open in winter 2026 and close in early summer 2026. In practice that means applying in the spring of sophomore year for the summer after junior year.
Academy review is rolling and the application closes when the class fills, so treat the stated closing date as a ceiling. The full-time Associate Program has its own window: for the current cycle, spring 2026 to fall 2026.
Cubist and other internships, including quantitative research, technology, and market intelligence roles, post on Point72's careers site on their own schedules. Quant roles for a given summer have been live by the summer and fall before it.
These are patterns from recent cycles, not published dates, and they shift. The reliable signal is the posting itself: Trakker is an internship tracker that reads Point72’s careers site directly and can email you within minutes of a new role appearing.
Who can apply
The Academy summer internship is for students in their final summer of university. No finance or economics background is required: past participants include PhDs, classically trained musicians, and special forces veterans, drawn from more than 90 universities.
Cubist roles expect a strong quantitative background in math, statistics, computer science, physics, or engineering.
The interview process
Point72's own guidance for the Academy lists four stages: a resume screen, an online questionnaire, a case study, and interviews. Candidates also report a timed cognitive test, a stock pitch on a real company with a clear thesis and catalyst, a case that runs about a week, and a superday of three or four back-to-back interviews that dig into your assumptions.
Cubist interviews look like quant firm interviews: coding and probability assessments, then technical rounds on statistics, research design, and programming. Developer candidates get more software engineering.
Tips for applying to Point72
- Sophomores: put the Academy on your calendar now. The window opens well over a year before the internship, earlier than most banks and funds.
- Have a live stock pitch ready before you apply. Academy interviews reward a specific, defensible view on one company, and broad market commentary won't carry you.
- You don't need to be a finance major for the Academy. Show how you research and argue.
- Treat Cubist and the Academy as two separate applications. They are different businesses with different interviews, and prep for one does little for the other.
