Intel internships: when they open and how to apply
Because Intel both designs and manufactures its own chips, an intern can land anywhere from GPU software to fab process engineering. You don't apply to a team. Intel recruits U.S. interns through a handful of pooled postings split by job family and degree level, then matches candidates to groups.

Internships and programs at Intel
The early-career programs it runs for students and recent graduates, by the names it uses for them.
- Software Engineering Intern (Bachelor's and Graduate)
- A pooled posting covering firmware, drivers, AI frameworks, GPU and cloud software, middleware, and validation. Recruiters route applicants to specific teams. The 2027 postings list Hillsboro, Folsom, Santa Clara, Phoenix, and Austin.
- Silicon Hardware Engineering Intern (Bachelor's and Graduate)
- Chip design, verification, architecture, and physical design work across Intel's product groups, posted in the same pooled format as the software track.
- Module and Process Engineering Interns
- Manufacturing and technology development roles at the fab sites in Oregon and Arizona, including PhD-level module engineering internships. A natural fit for chemical engineering, materials science, and physics students.
- Technical Sales and Sales and Marketing Interns
- Business-side internships, also split into Bachelor's and Graduate postings, for students interested in customer engineering, sales, and product marketing.
When Intel posts internships
For 2027, the pooled Bachelor's and Graduate postings went up on September 2 and 3, 2026, and PhD fab roles followed about a week later. One posting covers both spring and summer 2027 starts, and Intel also considers candidates for year-long internships or co-ops.
Recruiters keep pulling from the pools for months, since each one feeds many teams. Early applicants still have the edge: teams that start matching in the fall choose from whoever is already in the pool.

Who can apply
You must be pursuing a degree at an accredited school. The Bachelor's software posting asks for a major such as computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, data science, or math, plus 3+ months of relevant experience from coursework, research, or projects. A 3.0 GPA or higher is preferred.
The 2027 U.S. intern postings state the roles are not eligible for employment visa sponsorship. International students should read the immigration section of each posting before applying.
The interview process
A recruiter screen comes first, then interviews with the hiring team once you are matched to a group. Questions follow the job family: coding and debugging for software, digital logic and computer architecture for hardware, process and data analysis for fab roles.
Since you apply to a pool and not a team, say clearly which areas you want, both on your resume and in the recruiter call. That is how you get matched to a team that fits.
Tips for applying to Intel
- Put specific areas of interest, such as GPU drivers or design verification, near the top of your resume so recruiters can route you.
- Coursework in computer architecture or digital design carries real weight, even for software roles close to the hardware.
- Open to a spring start or a longer co-op? Say so. The postings explicitly consider those candidates.
