Interns ship production code for Meta's apps and infrastructure for a minimum of 12 weeks, in person at a US office. Production Engineer Intern: Half software engineering, half systems work, closer to what other companies call site reliability. Production Engineer interns write code but also need to know operating systems, networking, and Linux internals. The interviews reflect that, with systems questions alongside coding.
Rotational Product Manager (RPM) Program: An 18-month full-time rotational program, not a summer internship. It opens with a four-week product bootcamp, then three rotations on different product teams in Menlo Park or New York. Meta pitches it to recent grads and career changers with technical or management skills, and RPMs can convert to full-time PM roles at the end.

When Meta posts internships

Meta's summer internship postings have gone up between August and October of the year before. Review is rolling, so the first weeks after a posting goes live count for more than the last. Offers roll out from late fall into spring.

RPM keeps its own calendar. For the cohorts starting in March and September 2027, Meta lists September 23, 2026 as the date applications open.

Because the loop is fairly automated, the gap between applying and hearing back can be short. Interns often report about a month from first contact to decision.

Who can apply

Software internships are for students in a bachelor's, master's, or PhD program who will return to school afterward. Internships are in person, so plan on relocating to one of Meta's US offices for the summer. PhD candidates apply through separate research intern postings.

Meta University, the paid summer program for first- and second-year students from underrepresented groups, took its final class in 2025 after Meta ended its DEI programs. There is no Meta-specific freshman program now. Underclassmen have to compete for the standard internship once they have enough coursework.

Tips for applying to Meta

Practice coding problems on a clock. Meta's intern interviews are known for expecting clean solutions to two problems in one session, so speed counts as much as correctness.
Like operating systems and networking? Look at Production Engineer postings. They draw fewer applicants than SWE and reward a more systems-heavy skill set.
Treat team matching as part of the interview. Show up knowing what kinds of products or infrastructure you want to work on.
RPM opens in the fall and is a full-time job. It's a senior-year or early-career option, not an internship.
