WorldQuant internships: when they open and how to apply
Two routes lead into WorldQuant, a quantitative investment firm with research offices around the world. One is conventional internships posted office by office. The other is WorldQuant BRAIN, an online platform where you build alphas and can work your way toward consultant roles, internships, and jobs.

- Quantitative Research Intern
- Interns support researchers from data study and idea generation through to building alphas, the predictive signals at the core of WorldQuant's approach. Formats vary by office: the Paris listing for 2027 is a six-month internship starting in May, and Beijing and Shanghai post their own.
- Quant Developer Intern and Data Science Intern
- Engineering and data internships posted in specific offices, recently Singapore for development and Beijing or Shanghai for data science. They support the research platform and datasets researchers use.
- WorldQuant BRAIN Research Consultant
- BRAIN is a free platform with data, tools, and simulations for building alphas. Strong performers can become paid, remote research consultants in approved countries, and WorldQuant says consultants can access internship and full-time opportunities.
- International Quant Championship (IQC)
- A free annual competition on BRAIN for teams of one to four students, faculty, or alumni from the same university. The 2026 edition ran from March to September in three stages: a university qualifier, a national or regional round, and global finals in Singapore.
When WorldQuant posts internships
There is no single global recruiting season. Offices post their own internships through the year, and some are off-cycle or longer than a US summer internship, like six-month placements in Europe. Keep an eye on the job board all year.
BRAIN runs on its own calendar. In 2026 the IQC qualifier ran from mid-March to mid-May, the national and regional stage into mid-July, and finals in September. You can join BRAIN itself any time.
These are patterns from recent cycles, not published dates, and they shift. The reliable signal is the posting itself: Trakker is an internship tracker that reads WorldQuant’s careers site directly and can email you within minutes of a new role appearing.
Who can apply
Research internships want BS, MS, or PhD students in math, physics, computer science, statistics, engineering, or other quantitative fields, with strong academic records. The Paris listing also asks for Python and shell scripting. Roles are office-specific, so check each posting's location and visa notes.
IQC participants must be at least 18, and every team member must be from the same university. Residents of some countries are excluded, as are current WorldQuant employees, BRAIN consultants, and prior winners.
The interview process
Candidates commonly report an online assessment, then technical interviews on probability, statistics, linear algebra, and algorithms. Some offices run several short back-to-back interviews; others hold longer rounds with senior researchers.
On BRAIN, the work is the first filter. Alpha performance on the platform and in the IQC is what earns consultant invitations, which can then lead to interviews.
Tips for applying to WorldQuant
- Start on BRAIN before you apply. A record of submitted alphas is hard evidence of the exact skill WorldQuant hires for.
- Form an IQC team with classmates early in the spring. The qualifier is scored within your university, so your first competition is your own school.
- Look past your home country's office. WorldQuant's internships are spread across many cities, and the right role may be a longer placement abroad.
