Adobe internships: when they open and how to apply

Engineering, research, design, and business all hire interns at Adobe, and Adobe Research has a well-known program for graduate students that regularly produces papers and patents. Adobe also runs Digital Academy, a scholarship-to-internship route for career switchers that works nothing like a normal internship.

Internships and programs at Adobe

The early-career programs it runs for students and recent graduates, by the names it uses for them.

Adobe Internships
Summer internships in software engineering, AI and machine learning, data science, product management, design, marketing, and sales. Interns land on teams building products like Creative Cloud, Document Cloud, and Experience Cloud. Most run about 12 weeks, with big hubs in San Jose, San Francisco, New York, and Lehi.
Adobe Research Internships
For graduate students, mostly PhD candidates in computer science and electrical engineering, working in areas like computer vision, graphics, machine learning, and human-computer interaction. Interns work with Adobe Research scientists and product teams, and the work often ends up in papers or patents. Postings go up in the fall and hire into the spring.
Adobe Digital Academy
A program for career switchers who aren't currently enrolled in a degree program. Selected participants get a living stipend while they attend a General Assembly bootcamp in software engineering, data science, UX design, or digital marketing, and can then be considered for a paid internship on an Adobe team lasting three to six months or more.
Adobe Sales Academy
A paid 12-week sales internship for rising seniors, held between May and September in offices including San Jose, San Francisco, Lehi, Denver, and New York City. Interns learn to sell enterprise software, and many return as full-time business development or account reps. Adobe also hires recent grads into full-time Sales Academy roles.

When Adobe posts internships

Adobe's summer internships have opened in late August to early September, with rolling review. People who apply in the first few weeks after a posting goes live get the most interviews.

Research internships post in the fall and keep hiring into spring as researchers find matching candidates. Digital Academy has a narrow window: for its 2025 cohort, applications ran from September 23 to October 18, 2024, and the bootcamp started the following February.

These are patterns from recent cycles, not published dates, and they shift. The reliable signal is the posting itself: Trakker is an internship tracker that reads Adobe’s careers site directly and can email you within minutes of a new role appearing.

Who can apply

Internships are for bachelor's, master's, or PhD students in computer science, design, HCI, data science, business, and similar fields who will return to school afterward. Graduating seniors are pointed to new grad roles. Adobe doesn't publish a GPA cutoff.

Research internships expect graduate-level research experience, and PhD applicants should not have defended before the internship. Adobe has sponsored international students through CPT and OPT for many technical roles, but check each posting. Digital Academy is not for current students.

The interview process

Engineering candidates report an online coding test, then a recruiter screen, a technical interview with live coding, and a final loop of two or three interviews. Designers present a portfolio instead of coding.

The final loop mixes deeper technical questions with behavioral ones tied to Adobe's values. Research candidates present their work and discuss it with the research team.

Tips for applying to Adobe

  • PhD students in graphics, vision, or ML should target Adobe Research directly. It's a separate pipeline from the general engineering internship.
  • Designers: prepare a portfolio walkthrough. It replaces the coding portion of the loop.
  • Mention real use of Adobe products where it fits. Teams building Photoshop, Acrobat, or Experience Cloud like candidates who understand their users.
