Airbnb internships: when they open and how to apply
Most big tech internships are picked over by October. Airbnb's isn't even open yet. Its US software engineering internship has been remote-eligible, and recent summer postings used two short, fixed application windows in December and January instead of a single fall opening.

Internships and programs at Airbnb
The early-career programs it runs for students and recent graduates, by the names it uses for them.
- Software Engineering Intern
- A 12-week summer internship for Bachelor's and Master's students with one or two semesters left after the summer. Interns own a capstone project end to end on a product team; past projects include gift card features, review search and summarization, and host messaging tools. The summer 2026 posting let interns work remotely from most US states, with occasional office or offsite time.
- Summer Intern Program
- Airbnb's 12-week US summer program (May to August) for non-engineering functions: communications, finance, legal, and public policy. It is open to full-time students with at least one semester remaining.
- Part-Time Semester Internship
- A four to six month US internship during the school year, listed for business operations and privacy law. Good for students who want experience without giving up a summer.
- Connect Engineering Apprenticeship
- An apprenticeship of about five months for people coming into software engineering from nontraditional paths: bootcamp graduates, self-taught programmers, and associate degree holders. Apprentices spend about three months on a curriculum covering Airbnb's stack, then do real project work with a dedicated mentor. It is hybrid in San Francisco, and applications open in April.
When Airbnb posts internships
The engineering internship skips the August and September rush entirely. For summer 2026, the Software Engineering Intern posting opened in two windows, December 8 to 17, 2025 and January 12 to 21, 2026, with rolling review inside each. It came down on January 23. That is one cycle, not a published rule, but plan on the SWE internship appearing in winter.
The US Summer Intern Program for business functions lists December to February as its application period. International internships in APAC and EMEA run six months (six to twelve in LATAM) and recruit on local calendars. Connect takes applications in April.
These are patterns from recent cycles, not published dates, and they shift. The reliable signal is the posting itself: Trakker is an internship tracker that reads Airbnb’s careers site directly and can email you within minutes of a new role appearing.
Who can apply
The summer 2026 SWE posting asked for current Bachelor's or Master's students graduating between December 2026 and June 2027, familiar with CS fundamentals and at least one language from a long list that includes Java, Kotlin, Swift, JavaScript, and Ruby. It said Airbnb could not sponsor visas for the role and required candidates to live in a state where Airbnb has a registered entity.
There is no dedicated freshman or sophomore program. International office internships are open to current students and, in APAC and EMEA, to recent graduates with under a year of full-time experience.
The interview process
Engineering candidates report a coding assessment first, often on HackerRank, then live technical interviews of about 45 minutes. Airbnb is known for wanting real, runnable code, not pseudocode, so solutions should be correct and pass test cases.
Values carry unusual weight. Even technical candidates meet a cross-functional interviewer, often from outside engineering, who asks about collaboration and what it means to be a good host. Candidates report a few weeks from first screen to decision.
Tips for applying to Airbnb
- Put December and January on your calendar. The summer 2026 SWE windows were about ten days each, and missing both meant missing the cycle.
- Practice writing complete, compiling solutions under time pressure. Interviewers have been reported to reject pseudocode.
- Prepare real stories for the values interview. Airbnb weighs it heavily, and generic teamwork answers land badly.
- Check early that you live in a state where Airbnb can employ you. That restriction was on the remote-eligible posting.
