Lyft internships: when they open and how to apply
Lyft keeps intern cohorts small and puts each intern on a real team with a mentor. Most seats are in software engineering and data science, spread across San Francisco, New York, Toronto, Montreal, and Mexico City. New grad product managers can join an 18-month Associate Product Manager program.

- Software Engineer Intern
- Summer internships on product and infrastructure teams, posted by specialty: backend, frontend, fullstack, machine learning, and test automation for summer 2027. San Francisco is the main U.S. hub. Canadian postings require enrollment at a Canadian university, and Montreal roles also ask for working French.
- Data Science Intern, Algorithms
- Internships on the teams that build the models behind pricing, dispatch, incentives, and marketplace experiments, with specialties in optimization, machine learning, and inference. These are for master's and PhD students. The summer 2027 postings covered San Francisco, New York, and Toronto.
- Data Engineer Intern and Data Analyst Intern
- Smaller data internships outside data science, posted in Toronto and New York for summer 2027. For students who want pipelines, metrics, and analysis more than modeling.
- Associate Product Manager (APM) Program
- An 18-month rotational program for new graduate product managers, with rotations across different Lyft teams and product areas. APMs own metrics and are expected to work like full product managers.
When Lyft posts internships
Lyft's summer 2027 internships all went up on September 11, 2026: software engineering, data science, data engineering, data analyst, and UX research. That is a few weeks later than the earliest big tech postings. The cohort is small, though, so seats go fast once interviews start.
New grad software engineering roles and the APM program have recruited on a similar fall timeline for the following year. Each internship is posted per location, so check Toronto, Montreal, and Mexico City alongside San Francisco.

Who can apply
Software engineering internships are for bachelor's and master's students in computer science, and the summer 2027 postings asked for a graduation date between December 2027 and summer 2028. Data science internships on the algorithms team require a master's or PhD in a mathematical field, economics, or similar.
Canadian internships are posted separately from U.S. roles and require current enrollment at a Canadian university. The APM program targets recent graduates with little full-time product experience.
The interview process
Candidates commonly report an online assessment, sometimes on Byteboard, followed by technical interviews. Lyft is known for its laptop interview: you build a working solution on your own machine, in your language of choice, with internet access, and are graded on correctness, code quality, and performance.
Data science candidates face statistics, experimentation, and product-sense questions tied to a two-sided marketplace. APM candidates can expect product design and analytical questions about riders and drivers.
Tips for applying to Lyft
- Practice building something end to end on your own laptop in a timed session. The laptop interview rewards clean, working code over clever tricks.
- Think in marketplace terms. Lyft's data science problems often come down to balancing riders and drivers.
- If you study in Canada, look at Toronto and Montreal. Those postings are listed separately and only take students at Canadian universities.
