The 2027 trading format is multiple one-week sessions spread through the year, so session dates may not line up with a normal summer; Akuna says it will notify registrants when the roles go live. It also posts occasional term-time roles, such as a part-time accounting internship in Chicago.

Who can apply

The software postings ask for a bachelor's, master's, or PhD in a technical field and graduation by August 2028; the Sneak Peek Weeks ask for graduation between December 2027 and August 2028. No finance or trading experience is required, and Akuna says many of its engineers joined knowing little about markets.

US roles require legal authorization to work in the US on the first day, which Akuna notes includes F-1 students using OPT or STEM OPT. Sneak Peek Weeks must be attended in person in Chicago.

The interview process

Candidates report starting with an online assessment: coding problems for engineers, and math, probability, and options-flavored questions for quant and trading candidates. One or more technical video interviews and a final round follow.

For engineering roles, expect questions tied to the language of the posting, since Akuna hires separately for C++, Python, C#, and web interns. Multithreading and performance come up on the C++ track, whose systems Akuna describes as heavily multithreaded and asynchronous.
