Jump Trading internships: when they open and how to apply

Jump Trading, founded in Chicago, is a research-driven trading firm with offices across the US, Europe, and Asia. Every campus role carries a "Campus" prefix, and Jump opens them region by region, starting with the US. Students outside the US see postings weeks later.

Internships and programs at Jump Trading

The early-career programs it runs for students and recent graduates, by the names it uses for them.

Campus Quantitative Trader (Intern)
An intensive 10-week internship focused on trading intuition, market mechanics, statistics, and Jump's research process. Interns get daily one-on-one mentorship and join mock trading sessions and poker training. The US version is in Chicago and New York.
Campus Quantitative Researcher, UG/MS (Intern)
A 10-week program in Chicago and New York where interns build their own predictive models and automated strategies for live trading before joining trading teams on projects. Training covers machine learning, C++, Python, and statistics.
Campus Software Engineer (Intern)
A 10-week internship on Jump's core development team, working on production code for its distributed trading platform. Jump calls the internship its primary way of identifying software engineers for that team.
Campus AI Research Engineer (Intern)
Research engineering internships in Chicago and New York, with variants in deep learning and research automation. Jump also posts systems, data, UI, and FPGA engineering internships in various offices.

When Jump Trading posts internships

Jump opens roles by region. Its summer 2027 US campus internships went live on July 8, 2026, about eleven months before the summer. London and Amsterdam followed on July 13, Singapore in early August, and Hong Kong and Shanghai in late August. Review is rolling.

Jump also posts off-cycle winter and spring internships in Asia and runs a separate PhD fellowship with an October university nomination deadline, so its campus board keeps moving through the fall.

These are patterns from recent cycles, not published dates, and they shift. The reliable signal is the posting itself: Trakker is an internship tracker that reads Jump Trading’s careers site directly and can email you within minutes of a new role appearing.

Who can apply

Jump looks for students from top undergraduate and graduate programs in math, physics, and computer science, with an emphasis on probabilistic thinking. Its US quant trader posting explicitly encourages international students to apply.

Software postings ask for strong C++ or Python on Linux and a solid grasp of data structures and threading. PhD students have separate quantitative researcher internships and the Jump Trading Fellowship, which only takes nominations from participating US universities.

The interview process

Candidates report an online assessment first: probability and mental math for trading, coding for research and engineering. A few technical video interviews follow, then back-to-back final interviews.

Quant research interviews mix statistics, machine learning, and coding. Trading interviews focus on probability, expected value, and quick decisions. Software interviews lean toward C++, systems, and concurrency.

Tips for applying to Jump Trading

  • Outside the US? Keep checking after the US roles go live. Last cycle Asia postings came six weeks later.
  • For trading, prepare probability and betting-style reasoning; Jump's training uses poker and mock trading, and the interviews reflect that mindset.
  • For software, be ready to talk about low-level performance in C++ or Python on Linux, beyond algorithm puzzles.
