Bain & Company internships: when they open and how to apply
Bain hires undergraduates as Associate Consultants, and the 10-week Associate Consultant Internship is the main way in. For underclassmen, Bain runs more short exploratory programs than most firms, several of them open to sophomores and first-years in the US.

- Associate Consultant Internship
- A 10-week summer internship for bachelor's and master's students with one full summer left before graduation, open to all majors with no consulting experience required. It starts with a week of intensive training. After that, interns join a real case team and own a piece of the client work. Strong interns may receive full-time Associate Consultant offers.
- Consulting Kickstart
- A three-part virtual webinar series for sophomores at four-year universities in the US and Canada, held in October so it fits around classes. Participants hear from consultants, recruiters, and recent hires and learn how Bain's recruiting works before they are eligible for it.
- Building Entrepreneurial Leaders (BEL)
- Bain founded BEL in 2009 for undergraduates exploring consulting. It is built around interactive sessions with Bain consultants on how case work and problem solving happen day to day, and it runs each year across Bain's US offices and Toronto.
- Other exploratory programs
- Bain lists several other short US programs of a week or less, including CREW (Connecting and Resourcing Empowered Women), ADvantage, BASE (Building and Supporting Excellence), and First Forward, each with its own audience and application.
When Bain & Company posts internships
Associate Consultant Internship deadlines are set by office and region, not nationally, and the program targets students with one summer left before graduation. As of fall 2026, Bain's US page described the internship as aimed at students graduating by June 2028, meaning current juniors applying for summer 2027.
The exploratory programs run on their own calendars and come earlier. Consulting Kickstart's 2026 deadline was October 5, for sessions later that month. BEL's 2026 applications were open in January 2026, and Bain says the 2027 program will be announced later. Sophomores who want recruiters to know them before the internship application should start with these.

Who can apply
The internship is open to bachelor's and master's students from any discipline who have one full summer left before graduating. Bain says outright that no prior consulting experience is needed. Offices outside North America run their own versions with local deadlines.
Consulting Kickstart is limited to sophomores at four-year schools in the US or Canada; BEL is for undergraduates. Some programs, such as CREW, are aimed at specific communities, so check each program's page.
The interview process
Bain's consultant hiring process combines a digital assessment, case interviews, and behavioral interviews about past experiences. Its cases reward precision and creativity, Bain says, and there is not always a single right answer. You get all the data you need during the case.
Some roles add a written assignment: a take-home challenge of about three days that may end in a presentation. Candidates commonly report two interview rounds for the internship, with final-round cases that feel closer to real client work.
