Summer Internship Programme: A summer internship across Investment Banking, Global Markets, Research, Corporate Banking, Global Transaction Banking, Technology, Operations, Private Banking, and other areas. In the U.S., interns can also join the US Consumer Bank, which runs co-branded credit cards with American brands.
Discovery Programme: A two-day insight program for students two years away from graduation, held in April last cycle. It covers who Barclays is and what the next steps into the firm look like, and participants may be considered for the following year's internship.

Technology, operations, and other areas often post later, and the Discovery Programme takes applications ahead of its spring dates. Programs vary by location, so check the posting for your office.

Who can apply

U.S. summer postings ask for undergraduates graduating within a year of the internship's end, ideally with a GPA of 3.2 or above and unrestricted work authorization. The Discovery Programme is for students two years from graduation. Technical programs such as developer and quantitative roles expect relevant coursework.

If you need adjustments, such as extra time on assessments, Barclays asks you to flag it in the application.

The interview process

The process starts with an application form, then two short interactive assessments that gauge how you might perform at work; you can take them on a phone. Technical programs add a skills assessment. Candidates who pass attend an in-person or virtual assessment centre with two or three stages, including a motivational interview with a member of the leadership team.

Third-party AI tools are banned in Barclays interviews, including transcription bots and meeting assistants. Using one ends the interview and withdraws the application.
